Megatron DA & EA Light Meters (Lightmeters)

The DA light meters are a range of seven amplified analogue light meters with 45mm Type M Photocells in domed ‘Perspex’ cosine correcting mounts. The four instruments covering the lowest light levels (with ranges of 0-10 lux and lower) have illuminated scales to enable them to be more easily read in the poor light – see the Table below for details including the ranges. Special versions of these meters with different ranges and using other photocells can be made to meet your requirements.

The EA2 and EA22 light meters were developed for botanical and agricultural work and research; they have a small measuring head to reduce disturbance to foliage, and are capable of measuring the high light intensities encountered in outdoor work. The photocell used is a 16mm Megatron Type B, potted to give protection against humidity, and mounted in a flat cosine correcting mount. The colour sensitivity of the Type B cell is more suited to botanical work than the Type M cells used in the DL and DA meters. The EA2 has one measuring head mounted on a 250mm (10in) handle, extendable to 500mm (20in). The EA22 has two measuring heads, each with an extendable handle as with the EA2; either of these heads can be selected with the ON/OFF switch.

Both the DA and the EA meters are amplified and use a 9v battery; meters with an illuminated scale also use four 1.5v batteries independently for this purpose.

Standard ON/OFF Switch
For the convenience of those using the many different types of our light meters, we have standardised our ON/OFF switch as far as possible with the following positions:
· the OFF position where the micro-ammeter is short-circuited to protect it during transit and when the instrument is not in use
· the ON position - the EA22 has an ON position for each of the sensitive heads
· the ON + LIGHT position for those instruments with illuminated scale
· the BATTERY CHECK position where the meter acts as a 10v voltmeter

The operation of these light meters is very straightforward. The left hand rotary switch is the standard ON/OFF switch described above; the right hand switch selects the appropriate range, and the illuminance on the cell is read directly in lux (or foot candles if required).
